About DNA testing

What is DNA?

DNA is the abbreviation of Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid.
Our body is made up of about 60 trillion cells. DNA is a blueprint for assembling the cells properly.
A person has 46 (23x2) chromosomes inherited from his/her parents.
If the chromosomes are untied, they will become a double helix shape.
Between the double helix, there are 4 letters - A, T, G and C. A and T are a pair and they are facing each other. G and C are also a pair and they are facing each other.

The difference between DNA and genes

DNA is a combination of genes.
Genes are a part of DNA which has information about the production of proteins.

The difference between genetic testing and DNA testing

DNA testing is for examining parent-child relationships and blood relationships.
It analyzes physical characteristics and places where genetic information is not shown. Therefore, it is not for examining particular genetic contents.
Genetic testing helps you understand diseases, such as lifestyle-related diseases, cancers and so on. It also helps you understand a person's physical characteristics, such as face, skin, eye color and so on.

DNA testing methods

STR method and PCR method are used in our tests.
STR method examines the short repetition of the personal distinguishing ATGC. PCR method increases the number of the few samples by thousands of times.

What is DNA paternity testing?

A child inherits half of the genes from his/her mother and half of the genes from his/her father. DNA paternity testing is for examining whether or not the father and mother are the child's biological parents, by examining the pattern of the DNA of the child and the parents.
